The Central Otago Interclub competition has reached the penultimate round and defending champions Wanaka have taken an unassailable lead in the competition.
Round seven was played at Millbrook on Saturday 31st of October with Arrowtown taking the honours for the day with a 5 round aggregate of 365.
That did little to improve their position, second from the foot of the table, but Wanaka”s second placing, 9 shots behind on 374 was enough to ensure they enter the final round in an unbeatable position.
Wanaka started the day 37 shots ahead of the Queenstown team; a healthy lead, but not by any means untouchable. However, Wanaka’s second placing on the day, combined with a melt-down by the Kelvin Heights contingent has sealed the result with a round still to play. Queenstown finished on 394, in a tie for bottom place at Millbrook with lake Hawea and Dunstan.
The order of placings didn’t change at all for the eight teams competing in the 2015 competition, but Wanaka’s lead has stretched to 57 shots over Queenstown. A difference of 11.4 strokes per counting play for the final round is mission impossible and short of a default by Wanaka in the final round, they will win the trophy again this year.
