The Central Otago Inter-club competition enters the winter recess with just 3 rounds of the schedule completed.
The event involves 8 clubs with a round on each of the entrants home courses, split into a Summer/Autumn – Spring/Summer schedule. The normal format allows for 4 rounds on each side of winter, with the worst of the weather avoided, not only for golfing comfort, but safety consideration re travel in June-July.
With the postponement of round 2 at Alexandra, only 3 rounds are completed, meaning a 5th round will be slotted into the Spring/Summer section of the event.
Alexandra will rest on the lead through winter, with Arrowtown hot on their heals, just 2 shots behind. Dunstan, in third place, lead the rest of the chasing pack, a dozen shots back.
That may seem a lot to catch up, but 10 shot swings in a single round are common in this event. With the competition not yet at the halfway point; the “fat lady” has not even started dusting off her piano.
