St Clair Blue is on the march up the points table after beating St Clair Gold with five wins and a half on the St Clair course on Saturday afternoon.
This gives the top St Clair team six points, to be tied with Chisholm Links and Island Park for third place at the halfway stage of the metropolitan men’s Senior A pennant series.
St Clair Blue can now look forward to five home games and looks certain to make the playoffs at the end of home-and-away round robin.
Captain Connor Ross is the best performed Blue player to date, with three wins from four starts.
The team has used no fewer than 12 players in the first five rounds and it is imperative that it settles on a strong combination, including those players who perform well on the Corstorphine course.
Otago and Taieri Lakes continue to share the honours with 13 points each, although the Balmacewen golfers have a four-game advantage.
Otago was too good for Island Park with Thomas Gillan, Duncan Croudis and Ben Patston all winning by impressive margins.
Murray Edgar and Brandon Hodgson both won on the final green, while Island Park captain Michael Minty scored his team’s only success, halving with student Howard Maxwell.
Otago’s success comes from Croudis with five wins, Tyrone Ratahi with four from four while Edgar has 100% record with winning three games at Balmacewen.
Playing at home, Taieri Lakes had a close tussle with Chisholm Links but forged ahead at the death winning by a 4 to 2 margin.
Mark Andrews continues to be the standout Taieri golfer, posting his fifth win when he beat MacKenzie Gibson 4 and 3.Taieri’s promising junior Hayden Robertson has won all of his three games and beat Peter Rae on the 17th green on Saturday.
No6 Ian Boath beat Matthew Heaton 3 and 2, while at No2, Callum Stringer beat Links captain Mark Collie on the final green to tip the balance in Taieri’s favour.
Links No1 Brent Butler beat Brett Kennelly with one hole to spare while veteran Sean Geary scored his team’s second win, at the expense of fellow masters golfer Ken Shaw.
